There are just as many calcium supplements as there are types of vegetables. One thing that you will commonly
find is calcium and vitamin D together. If you notice, many milk products have labels “Vitamin D
Added.” The reason for this is because it helps your body to absorb calcium. So the relationship between these two
minerals is close and something we should look more in to.
Calcium deficiency has been linked to many diseases but one thing is for sure, and that is that there is also
usually a vitamin d deficiency. The sun of course can help give our body vitamin D but the easiest way is to ingest
it.
But vitamins alone are not the answer and you also need to eat a healthy diet that includes dark green
vegetables and plenty of fruits. It’s recommended that everyone eats a diet full of vegetables and fruits and only
use supplements as a last resort or to “supplement” their existing diet. They are not meant as replacements.

Vitamin D is fat soluble so that is another reason why it works so well in combination with milk. The calcium
that is in milk is actually extremely hard for the body to digest and you need all the help you can get.
It is said that adult men need around 1200mg of calcium and children should consume more than that up to 1500mg.
While there is no optimum Vitamin D requirement, you should definitely check with your doctor to see if your body
is in deficiency or not.
Osteoporosis is something that many people, especially women, in their 50’s begin to develop. One of the reasons
that it is so prevalent in women is because during pregnancy, calcium is used up to support the developing baby.
Some doctors will recommend specific supplements but urge a lot of caution because you don’t want to do harm to an
unborn child.
Vitamin D helps the body break down and absorb calcium in a manner than is usable for bone tissue and other
vital organ functions. You may not notice a deficiency in calcium and Vitamin D but your doctor
should be able to assess your body from blood work. Just remember that you should never self diagnose and never
take more than the recommended because more isn’t always better.
